The Portuguese government has been seeking a new “home” for the troubled national carrier TAP, which was renationalized during the Pandemic.

All the three European airline groups were initially part of the process, and Air France-KLM and Lufthansa Group were the two chosen for the last round, and the government has accepted Lufthansa bid of €1.2B for 44.9% stake in the airline.
The Prime Minister of Portugal disclosed during a press conference that Lufthansa’s bid was 16% higher than Air France
