At first glance, it might not seem like Alex Honnold’s free solo of El Capitan has much in common with Jim Morrison’s first ski descent of Everest’s north face, which is documented in Jimmy Chin’s new film Everest: The Other Side, which releases today, October 30.
But in a conversation during a live recording of Climbing Gold in May, it became clear that several parallels exist between these historic firsts:
