As Sir Keir Starmer prepares to leave office, one of his key “national missions” remains unresolved – the “lost generation” of a million young people not in education, employment or training – so-called NEETs.
The man the Prime Minister asked to come up with a fix for the problem, former health secretary Alan Milburn, is now working closely with Sir Keir’s expected successor, Andy Burnham, with reducing the benefits bill and further devolution firmly on the agenda.
