The South African Revenue Service (SARS) has reminded taxpayers that its 2026 tax filing season gets underway on Wednesday, 1 July, with millions of qualifying taxpayers expected to receive auto assessments before the general filing period opens.
Auto assessment is designed to simplify the tax process by allowing SARS to calculate a taxpayer’s return automatically using information already received from employers, banks, medical schemes, retirement funds and insurers.
