Thirty-six years ago, Nanaimo law enforcement officers first got their hands on roadside screening devices that officers use to test for alcohol intoxication.
According to the April 22, 1991 edition of the News Bulletin, the first 200 RSDs were distributed to police for 1990 Christmas holiday road checks, and have been used across B.C. every day since.
