Johannesburg is launching its first Open Streets Sundays, closing Main Street to cars and taking inspiration from Cape Town’s Bree Street experiment.
On 12 April 2026, a section of Main Street in Marshalltown will be closed to cars and opened to pedestrians and cyclists. The route runs between Ntemi Piliso and Rissik streets.
