In other news, the U.S. EPA also proposed to remove one landfill site from its National Priorities List under its Superfund program and partially remove another.

Acme Revival, which connects customers with electronics repair technicians, also sued Owl Labs and Blackmagic Design, saying the companies refused to provide parts and schematics required by law.

This is the first time the group has removed an item from the approximately four-year-old list. A broader review of the materials on the list is underway.

The agency’s inspector general found that just 0.5% of hazardous waste shipments were recorded in the tracking system electronically, many of which had errors. EPA is mulling a switch forcing an end to paper manifests.

At issue is the Midwest Premium, which reportedly incorporates the 50% aluminum tariffs on domestic manufacturers — even those that use domestically recycled aluminum. 

The decision maintains PFOS and PFOA as hazardous substances under CERCLA. NWRA and others sued the agency in 2024, saying EPA overstepped its authority and created industry liability.

“This is a major, but short-term, accomplishment in California,” said BPI Executive Director Rhodes Yepsen. Also this summer, USDA previewed plans to potentially update organics regulations.

The organization did not give an exact timeline for Burke’s departure, but said it plans to have a permanent replacement by the end of the year. Burke departs after three years at the helm of the long-standing industry group.

A busy second quarter in which approximately $2 billion worth of transactions closed contributed to a torrid deal pace. Executives discussed additional spending plans as the year continues.

The company said the decision came after an operational review and the U.S. EPA’s update of applicable air regulations. It disputed the impact of a strict local law passed to further limit emissions.

Third-party landfill tons gave the company a boost in the capacity-constrained Northeast, and it’s steadily working to integrate its mid-Atlantic assets. But high fuel costs and lower collection volumes were headwinds in Q2.

The company is seeing positive signs in several underlying dynamics, including commercial construction activity. Other growth intiatives, including polymer centers and PFAS-related business, are also netting returns.
