States Increasingly Pulling Rug Out From Under Big Tech With Tax Break Reversals
DAILY CALLER NEWS FOUNDATION—States that offered billions of dollars in tax breaks to lure data centers began to pull back the incentives as the artificial intelligence boom drove up costs and fueled opposition to the facilities.
More than 10 states paused or canceled data center tax exemptions, threatening benefits that helped Amazon, Meta, and Google build facilities across the country, The Wall Street Journal reported. Communities raised concerns about data centers’ demands on electricity

Zohran Mamdani Discovers Deregulation
A funny thing happened on the way to the Big Apple’s socialist utopia: Zohran Mamdani discovered deregulation.
The democratic socialist mayor of New York, who campaigned on rent freezes, free buses, and city-owned grocery stores, has apparently learned that sometimes government itself is the problem.
In July, Mamdani unveiled “OPEN for Small Business,” a package of more than 50 reforms aimed at cutting paperwork, eliminating outdated permits, and reducing some of the fines and fe

In 2022, Merriam-Webster declared gaslighting its word of the year after searches for the term increased by more than 1,700%. “It’s a word that has risen so quickly in the English language, and especially in the last four years, that it actually came as a surprise to me and to many of us,” said Peter Sokol

FBI Recorded Virginia Lawmakers’ Calls
The FBI sent a second round of letters alerting people that their calls involving Virginia state Sen. Louise Lucas had been intercepted earlier this year.
One lawmaker whose calls were captured was Rep. Suhas Subramanyam, a Democrat who is seeking reelection in Virginia’s 10th Congressional District. His office told the Daily Signal that it’s the second time this year that the congressman’s communications with Lucas, the president pro tempore of the state Senate, have been monitored.

Georgia Park No Longer Named After Famous ‘Father of American Music’
The Georgia Department of Natural Resources has officially changed the name of Stephen C. Foster State Park to Okefenokee State Park.
Conversations about the change have been occurring for a while, given the park’s connection to Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge, which was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site this summer.
A 2024 report by The Conservation Fund claimed that tourists to the park could “double from 800,000 to 1.6 million by 2035” if it were, in fact, designated a W

Only a Token Difference: Treating Cryptocurrencies Differently Makes No Sense
Cryptocurrencies like stablecoins have left many in the financial world, from major banks to customers, scratching their heads. It’s not just because few people understand how things like tokens work, but because regulations governing digital assets have further muddied the waters. And amid this confusion, consumers lose out.
There are traditional financial products or services with one set of rules. Then there’s an entirely different set of rules for functionally similar products and service

25 Years After 9/11, Have We Finally Realized What We’re Fighting?
I was born two years before Sept. 11, 2001. I belong to the first generation of Americans for whom the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon are not a personal memory. Because I do not remember the morning itself, the television images, or the atmosphere of fear and uncertainty that settled over the country, I know Sept. 11 as history.
But the history myself and those of my generation inherited did not end on that day. In some respects, it had only begun.
