Gale warning in force for Fiji waters as TC Vaianu set to intensify
A gale warning is now in force for parts of Fiji waters as Tropical Cyclone Vaianu continues to strengthen and move southeast of the group.
The Fiji Meteorological Service said the gale warning applies to Yasawa, Mamanuca and the Southwest Viti Levu waters, while a gale alert is in place for the Kadavu Passage. A strong wind warning remains in force for the rest of Fiji waters.
At midday today, Tropical Cyclone Vaianu was moving southeast at around 10km/h.

The risk of flooding in low-lying and flood-prone areas remains high as Tropical Cyclone Vaianu continues to influence weather conditions across the country.
The Fiji Meteorological Service said high intensity rainfall is expected, which could lead to rising river levels and flash flooding nationwide.
At midday today, Tropical Cyclone Vaianu was analysed about 500 kilometres west-northwest of Yasawa-i-Rara and was moving southeast at about five knots.
The system is expected to intensify further
