Although even the best Mystery Box shows can often struggle when it comes to reaching their ending and finally offering an explanation for everything, one HBO classic of the genre found an elegant solution for this. The origin of the term Mystery Box show is often affiliated with 2004’s ABC hit Lost, with a lot of critics citing the so-called mytharc of the earlier ‘90s hit The X-Files as a major progenitor of the style.
