A fresh wave of demonstrations in France saw fewer early incidents on Saturday than the previous weekend, as tougher policing measures and local protest bans aimed at preventing violence and looting drew criticism from unions and left-wing leaders.
French Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez said early Saturday afternoon that 135 people had been arrested across the country. “We counted 35,000 people in the public space; there were 60,000 on Oct. 17” at midday, he said at a press briefing.
