A low-profile state Assembly bill just signed into law is raising concerns that sales tax rates in San Diego County could soon rise from the 8% range toward the 10% and 11% rates seen in Los Angeles County and much of the Bay Area.
The new law — AB 2484 — marks the first time the state Legislature has given a government agency in San Diego County the kind of exemption that other parts of California have used to exceed the statewide 9.25% sales tax cap.
