Africa imports more than 70% of its medicines and about 99% of its vaccines, according to Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama.Mahama says the continent should treat that dependence as an industrial and investment opportunity, not only as a health-security problem. He wants more African capital to move into pharmaceutical manufacturing, regional supply chains and health infrastructure.Africa’s heavy dependence on imported medicines has long been viewed as a healthcare vulnerability.
