The City Council unanimously approved height and setback exceptions to Honolulu zoning rules for 1588 Ala Moana, paving the way for a BlackSand Capital and Kobayashi Group affiliate to move ahead on a 400-foot hotel tower, 200-foot market-rate condo tower and “podium” with 69 affordable rental units, commercial space and parking. This would replace an Ala Moana Center parking structure next to Atkinson Drive.
