On 12 September, CNN reported that around fifteen Ukrainian drone specialists are working with the Azawad Liberation Front (FLA) in northern Mali. According to two Ukrainians deployed there, the group does not fight on the front line; it trains fighters and helps run operations. A Ukrainian operator told CNN that he coordinates the rebels’ operations remotely and that Ukrainians helped take Kidal earlier this year. Tuareg rebels and al-Qaeda-linked fighters attacked the town simultaneously
