Early this morning, Eastern time, I became the first Wild Card competitor to reach Australia. Not only did I get here first, but I came in with room to spare on all of my currencies. I set out this time to remove any doubt as to whether my trip was within the budget: I did not spend down any of my award currencies to zero, leaving miles left over for a rainy day — or even a return flight to my airport of origin to complete the circle.
