It would be nearly impossible to come up with a consensus pick for the best horror movie of the '80s. It was, after all, a decade defined by all-time horror classics such as They Live, The Thing, The Shining, Poltergeist, Re-Animator, Videodrome, and A Nightmare on Elm Street. But in 1987, one franchise-launching picture went so far beyond accepted boundaries that it changed the trajectory of the genre forever. Now, almost 40 years after its launch, that franchise is slated for a new release.
