Artificial intelligence is rapidly becoming part of how people learn, solve problems and construct knowledge. Yet whether AI strengthens human intelligence or encourages excessive dependence remains an open question.

Researchers turned the thin plastic separator sheets inside dead lithium batteries into seawater filters. Recyclers normally throw those sheets away while chasing the metals, but reworked into membranes they stripped 99.6 percent of the salt out of seawater in two stages.
