The US Treasury announced new sanctions on 36 entities, including 27 Iranian airlines, for “supporting Iran’s aviation sector”.
The US Treasury said in a statement on Tuesday that the Iranian government uses the aviation sector to “move weapons, personnel and illicit cargo” and the sanctions were following through on the US's promise to impose “severe consequences” on entities providing “financial lifelines” to Iran.
