On August 19, 2026, the Internal Revenue Service announced in IR-2026-95 that it was establishing a new Office of Conservation Easements and, at the same time, ending the uniform settlement initiative it had launched only 98 days earlier. The May 13 program was intended to move a large inventory of pending cases toward resolution.
