US-Iran war: Why Larak island, Jordan and Egypt's Banque Misr are targets in latest flare-up

In the first known flare-up in violence between Iran and the US since late July, Washington struck Larak Island in the Strait of Hormuz, followed by Iran's retaliatory strikes on US bases in Jordan. Earlier, the US moved to cut off the UAE's branches of Banque Misr from the US financial system.
