While the late filmmaker William Friedkin is best remembered for directing the horror classic The Exorcistand the crime thriller The French Connection, a sizable portion of his fanbase swears by Sorcerer. The 1977 film underperformed at the box office upon release, but found a following over the next few decades. It’s now regarded as an underappreciated classic, with Friedkin himself calling it his favorite among his films, and Quentin Tarantino putting it on the same pedestal as Apocalypse Now.
