Editorial: Find compromise on new landfill

Oahu residents needn’t review the entire timeline to grasp that the Waimanalo Gulch Sanitary Landfill (WGSL) is a bane to residents on the Waianae Coast. Suffice to say that in 2009, Honolulu’s Planning Commission required the city to begin looking for a new site and stop dumping on the West Side of Oahu. Years of contested case hearings, litigation and political maneuvering have followed, but here we are in 2026, and no new site has been successfully identified.
