Chris Carter's The X-Filesdebuted in 1993 and immediately explored a world in which two FBI Agents were tasked with uncovering some of the most bizarre and supernatural cases imaginable. Given how regularly the program leaned into aliens and UFOs, many episodes were fully cemented in the sci-fi genre. Audiences curious about life elsewhere in the galaxy were intrigued, though not necessarily unsettled. Other episodes, however, delved into much darker territory.
