Dodging cars that didn’t even attempt to slow down, I made my way across the four-lane highway, along which Pig-licker and I had been running, coughing, and about to die in all kinds of ways. I hadn’t gotten off to a great start as a parent, seeing as it requires being alive. The highway I was crossing was divided by a massive almost chest-high concrete median. Once on the other side of that thing, I knew the taxi driver would have no way to reach me.
