Loosely inspired by Bob Rafaelson’s psychological thriller Black Widow (1987), Elizabeth Meriwether’s eight-part series is vastly superior to its notional source material. Alice Black (Emmy Rossum) is a former NYPD homicide detective who – escaping an abusive relationship with fellow cop Marshall Connelly (Jake Lacy) – has transferred to the FBI, where, as a junior agent, she is assigned to the call centre.
