A case of bird flu has been detected in a herring gull in Fort Smith, the GNWT announced on July 9.
“The transmission risk to humans remains very low. The GNWT continues to monitor for [bird flu] incidents in birds and other wildlife across the territory,” the territorial government stated, adding that 16 cases of bird flu have been confirmed in the NWT since 2022.
