Major Oak: 1,000-year-old ‘Robin Hood’ tree is dead, experts say

It’s one of the world’s best known trees, famed for sheltering Robin Hood and his band of merry men as they fled the Sheriff of Nottingham.
But now the Major Oak – which has stood for more than a thousand years in Sherwood Forest – is no more: a victim of too many tourists and not enough rain.
