The Yellowknife RCMP will begin collecting race-based data to better understand how frontline police officers treat Indigenous, Black and other racialized people.
As part of the RCMP’s modernization efforts, the Race-Based Collection Initiative aims to address systemic racism and discrimination within specific police interactions, such as use of force, wellness checks and arrests.
Using this data, the Mounties will aim to improve officer training and review policies and practices.
