There are plenty of movies that feature terrible casting choices. Some classic examples that come to mind are Kevin Costner as Robin Hood, Jared Leto as The Joker, and Tom Cruise as Jack Reacher. Some even seem like questionable ideas from the outset, like casting Jake Gyllenhaal as the Prince of Persia or Scarlett Johansson in 2017's live-action Ghost in the Shell. Still, it's rare for directors to outwardly admit their mistakes, making it all the more notable when it happens.
