The rate of traffic fatalities, compared to this time last year, has steeply declined — a good thing given that 2025’s 128 deaths marked the deadliest year for Hawaii roads since 2007. Still, the state is recording more than one road death per week on average — 23 total as of Friday. The Honolulu Police Department, which enforces traffic law in the state’s most congested city, has a plan to reduce annual auto death statistics, and hopefully keep them there, with some help from the public.
