Nearly 67% of the approximately 1,000 members of the formal business sector in Mérida—two out of every three—report sales below expectations in the first quarter of 2026.

This situation is causing concern among business owners, as profit-sharing payments are due in May, which begins tomorrow. Without profits, there are no funds to distribute in compliance with this labor right, stated José Enrique Molina Casares, President of the National Chamber of Commerce, Services and Tourism of Mérida.
