In Hawaii, immigration stories commemorate how many of us moved to this special place and came to call it our home. Transoceanic crossing and a generations-long struggle to break the back of an oppressive plantation system define the difficult and uncertain circumstances of ancestors. These deeply personal immigrant stories are received and passed on as a means of honoring the very best of those who came before us and their vision of a just and inclusive society.
