Mandatory wristbands for tourists are causing controversy in Rio Lagartos

Tensions are rising on the eastern coast of Yucatán due to measures implemented by the National Commission of Natural Protected Areas (Conanp) in the Ría Lagartos Biosphere Reserve.



Business owners and managers of tourist facilities in the ports of Río Lagartos, San Felipe, Las Coloradas, and El Cuyo denounced the current system for charging for mandatory wristbands, which they say poses a threat to the sustainability of their businesses, especially during the off-season when visitor numbers
