The Avatar: The Last Airbenderseries made sure to experiment with strong themes of ethics and morality to muddle its otherwise clear-cut narrative of good vs evil. No Avatar: The Last Airbender fan doubted that Avatar Aang was good and Fire Lord Ozai was the bad guy, but that black-and-white view only applies to people, not bending. The elemental bending arts are merely tools to use, or at least, that's the implication.
