It seems every data protocol that involves a cable is bound to cause confusion. The confusion around USB cables is well documented, even with USB-C becoming the standard, and these days, HDMI isn't much better. Last summer, the HDMI Forum introduced version 2.2 of the HDMI specification, which came with some major upgrades.
