I'm something of a tinkerer when it comes to my computers and (sometimes) phones, but one thing I never really thought I'd find myself doing is install custom firmware on an internet router. The whole concept sounded too risky and difficult, but I'd heard of the benefits, such as potentially extending support when the manufacturer is no longer doing it.
