Earthquakes in Yucatán follow the Ticul fault and are moving towards Mérida

A series of small earthquakes has shaken southern Yucatán since October 2025, following the Ticul Fault line and moving closer to Mérida.



Experts warn that while magnitudes remain low, the shallow depth and karstic soil amplify their perception across the region.

Total events: 11 earthquakes since October 2025



Strongest: Magnitude 4.1 on December 5, 2025, the largest in Yucatán since 1978



Latest: April 17–18, 2026, in Tecoh, just 40 km from Mérida
