Suspended Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) deputy chief Julius Mkhwanazi has been arrested as part of an ongoing corruption investigation.
National police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe confirmed that police arrested a 50-year-old senior municipal official on charges of fraud, corruption, and defeating or obstructing the ends of justice.
Police arrested Mkhwanazi at his home in Gauteng on Saturday morning.
The SAPS Madlanga Commission Task Team carried out the operation.
