South African February mineral sales surged by 58.3%

South African mineral sales surged by 58.3% year-on-year in February 2026 to R78.6 billion. This followed a 31.6% year-on-year gain to R81.6 billion.



Statistics South Africa said the increase in the first two months of 2026 was 43.5% year-on-year.

The largest positive contributors to the February 2026 surge were: gold (up 397.6%), PGMs (up 132.1%) and chromium ore (53.8%).



The biggest detractors were “other” non-metallic minerals (-55.9%) and manganese ore (-22.9
