Dignity South Africa filed a legal application this week to decriminalise and legalise medically-assisted euthanasia in South Africa.
The NPO approached the North Gauteng High Court this week, claiming that the bid protects the rights enshrined in the Constitution.
A petition to the public has also been created.
The news comes several weeks after TV and theatre star Ian von Memerty took his own life via suicide, which he labelled “self-deliverance”.
