When the Xbox 360 first introduced achievements way back in 2005, it felt like an evolution of how we consumed video games. Before, we would simply start and finish each virtual adventure and perhaps go full completionist if we truly felt like it. I did it with a handful of JRPGs in the past, and wasn’t afraid of tackling action games like God of War on higher difficulties to earn loads of exclusive unlockables. But these were all fueled by my own volition as a gamer.
