Effluent released from Regional District of Nanaimo’s Duke Point wastewater treatment facility was, at times, above maximum fecal amounts, and in one case, not properly disinfected due to a power outage.
These findings were released in a report published last month by the B.C. Ministry of Environment and Parks, who sent a non-compliance advisory letter to the regional district following an inspection earlier this year. The ministry assessed compliance from Jan. 1, 2023, to this Jan. 27.
